Employee Spotlight: Mike (“Ski”) Mastowski

At Oxford Services, we take pride in the quality of our work and the hardworking team behind it.

This month, we’re recognizing Mike Mastowski, better known as Ski, for his leadership and dedication the past five years at Oxford Services. As our Skilled Trades Manager, Ski leads a team of HVAC technicians, painters, and plumbers, ensuring projects run smoothly and efficiently from start to finish.

Before joining Oxford in 2019, Ski spent nearly a decade working in the printing industry. While grateful for that experience, he was drawn to a more dynamic career where no two days were the same. He tried out a carpentry position and what began as a search for variety quickly turned into a passion for skilled trades. At this position he continued to grow into various skilled trades and strengthen his leadership skills  until he found his way to Oxford Services.

In his current role, Ski oversees a team of several skilled employees and handles a nonstop stream of communication, fielding an estimated 80 emails and calls a day. Whether it's coordinating job priorities, responding to emergencies, or creating work orders, Ski is the one keeping it all on track. When urgent issues arise, he's the first to pivot, mobilizing the team to tackle whatever challenge comes next.

When asked about one of his favorite projects he has completed at Oxford Services, Ski recalled one of his first emergency jobs at Oxford: a major sewer backup at a large multi-tenant property. Still new to the team and learning the ropes, he had to coordinate a multi-trade effort to resolve the issue. The crew brought a mini excavator into the building, removed flooring, and dug nearly 12 feet down to repair the problem. HVAC techs, masons, and property managers worked side by side, and within days, the pipes were replaced, the space restored, and a difficult job turned into a meaningful team-building moment.

For those considering a career in the skilled trades, Ski recommends starting with an exploratory course to get hands-on experience across different trades. “A lot of people jump into one trade thinking it’s right for them,” he says, “but later realize it’s not the best fit. Exploring your options first helps you find where you truly belong.” He also stresses the importance of adaptability: “This is a fast-paced environment. You have to be ready to change directions at any moment depending on the urgency of the work.”

Outside of work, Ski finds peace in the outdoors. He enjoys hunting and fishing on his acre of land, where a creek runs through his backyard. It’s his personal escape from the weekday hustle. “It’s my Zen space,” he says. “It helps ground me so I can recharge and be ready to do it all again come Monday morning.”

Ski’s story is a great reminder that the path to a rewarding career isn’t always a straight line, and that the right team, the right environment, and the right attitude can make all the difference. We’re proud to have him leading the way at Oxford Services.
